SFLHCC President Attends Freedom Tower Press Conference Honoring Cuban Freedom and Raul Castro Indictment

SFLHCC President Liliam M. Lopez was honored to attend the recent press conference held at Freedom Tower, where the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed a federal indictment against former Cuban President Raúl Castro. The indictment, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, charges Castro and five others in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two Brothers to the Rescue aircraft over international waters, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The announcement took place on Cuban Independence Day and coincided with a ceremony honoring the victims of the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue plane shootdown.

The event brought together community leaders, advocates, and members of the Cuban-American community in a powerful moment of remembrance, reflection, and solidarity. Lily joined attendees in honoring the lives lost and recognizing the importance of preserving freedom, justice, and human rights for future generations.
