AI in Action: Highlights from the SFLHCC

Artificial Intelligence Symposium

The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC) proudly hosted its Annual Artificial Intelligence Symposium on June 20, 2025, highlighting the growing influence of AI across business, healthcare, hospitality, and education.

The event’s centerpiece was a dynamic panel discussion titled “Smart Moves: The Power and Challenges of AI in Business, Health, Hospitality & Education,” where leading experts shared how artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we live and work—while also addressing the ethical, operational, and workforce-related challenges it brings.

The panel was moderated by Eileen Cardet, published author and Emmy Award-winning news anchor at Univision 23, and featured a distinguished lineup of speakers:

  • Dr. Jose Dotres, Superintendent, Miami-Dade County Public Schools

  • David Reis, CIO, University of Miami Health System

  • Dr. Diana Azzam, Assistant Professor, Florida International University

  • Jovianna Gonzalez, CEO & Founder, Digital Forensics Now

  • Dr. Julio Franco, Director, Institute of Epic Leadership, St. Thomas University

  • David Sack, M.D., Medical Director, Mercy Hospital

  • Douglas Mackle, VP, Xerox Business Solutions Southeast

Panelists explored topics ranging from AI-powered precision medicine and adaptive education to cybersecurity and automation in business. The discussion emphasized the need for thoughtful implementation to ensure equity, accountability, and ethical use.

This forward-thinking event reinforced SFLHCC’s role as a leader in digital innovation. Through its Business Technology Committee, the Chamber remains committed to helping its members stay ahead in an increasingly tech-driven economy.

Following the panel, the event concluded with the Health Champion Awards, where 12 outstanding individuals were honored for their impactful contributions to health and wellness in our community.

A Shining Example of SFLHCC Impact:

From Scholarship to Leadership

During the AI Symposium on June 20, 2025, we proudly recognized one of our South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation scholarship recipients, Sandra Saint-Hilaire, who was awarded her scholarship in 2013. She is pictured alongside SFLHCC President Mrs. Liliam “Lily” Lopez and fellow scholarship recipients from that year.

Sandra currently serves as the Executive Director of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Board of County Commissioners.

We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and thrilled to see the lasting impact of our Foundation’s support in shaping future leaders.
